Government Spokesperson Dr Issac Mwaura has hit out at Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition figures questioning their ability to unite the country.
In a response to attacks directed to President William Ruto during the burial of former senator Daniel Karaba, Mwaura has claimed that the leaders are only attacking Ruto because they are in the political Siberia.
“Most of the leaders who spoke in Kirinyaga have been in government before and you can actually tell they are suffering from nostalgia of being in government.” Mwaura said.
“Some of this leaders think that they are the only ones who can unite the country” Mwaura added.
Uhuru in a thinly veiled criticism of President Ruto called on leaders to shun politics of insults.
“Be leaders. That is what the people of Kenya want. They want leadership, not politics. They don’t want insults. They want direction. They want leadership that will see them through to the other side,” he said.
President Ruto has recently been on the receiving end for using derogatory terms against his perceived opponents.
Mwaura has called on the leaders to let President William Ruto deliver his promises to Kenyans.
“No other government has done what Ruto has done in three years.” The Spokesperson said.
He claimed that the country is firmly behind the head of state owing to his track record since he ascended to the presidency.
