Nyandarua governor Kiarie Badilisha is the latest elected leader to desert the ruling UDA party for the Rigathi Gachagua led DCP Party.

In a statement Gachagua has confirmed that Badilisha, who is a first-time governor will defend his seat in 2027 on a DCP ticket following in the path of Muranga’s Irungu Kangata who equally left UDA for DCP last week.

“I am delighted to receive Governor Kiarie Badilisha of Nyandarua County and the entire County Assembly into the DCP Party,” read part of Gachagua’s statement.

Gachagua has attributed the exodus from UDA and other parties to his DCP Party to the popularity of his political outfit especially in the mt. Kenya region.

Gachagua who is a vocal critic of President William Ruto and his regime has said more leaders are set to leave Ruto’s camp for his.

“They have assured me that they will defend their seats on DCP Party tickets, and they shall form part of the aspirants in the party primaries next year,” he added.

DCP party has caused an upset in the region following its resounding victory in the Ol-Kalou by-election in Kiarie’s Nyandarua county.

Sammy Waweru was declared the winner after he garnered 35,440 votes, defeating UDA candidate Samuel Muchina Nyaga, who came second with 5,450 votes.

The victory is seen as the clearest sign yet that UDA party that sweeped clean the region in 2022 might not be enjoying the same level of support it did in the last elections.

The latest defections are expected to intensify political realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election as parties continue to recruit influential leaders and strengthen their grassroots support across the country.
