Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has intensified his criticism of President William Ruto, accusing him of misleading Kenyans about his political support in the Mt. Kenya region.
Responding to claims by Ruto that the votes he got in the region were a result of his own personal efforts Gachagua has said he and former President Uhuru Kenyatta are the ones responsible for Ruto’s popularity in the region.
“It is Uhuru who took you around mt.Kenya in 2013. He left here and went on to work for Kenyans while you traversed the region confusing us.” Gachagua has said.
“You later convinced us to believe that Uhuru was bad we took from wehre Uhuru left and toured sold you to the region.” He has added.
Gachagua dismissed the President’s claims, insisting that he was the one who convinced the people of Mt. Kenya to support William Ruto at a time when many in the region had rejected him.
“I am the one who sanitized you at a time the region was against you after what happened in 2007.” Gachagua has said.
Speaking to grassroots leaders from Othaya, Gachagua claimed that those attending President William Ruto’s meetings in the region are doing so only for financial gain and have no intention of voting for him in the next General Election.
He has claimed that the relationship between Ruto and the region has moved from one of love and is now transactional.
“When I was with you the mountain loved you, you’d come and they’d sing for you ngemi and listen to you and listen to you but now you have to pay for people to attend you meeting.” Gachagua has said challenging the head of state to hold a meeting in the region without promising attendees money.
Given a second chance, the opposition honcho has said, he would not back the head state accusing him of neglecting and economically and politically suppressing the mountain.
