Government spokesperson Dr. Issac Mwaura has called on Kenyans to go about their normal activities on June 25th despite fears about protests to commemorate mega demonstrations held on the same date in 2024 and 2025.

Speaking during his weekly briefing, Dr. Mwaura stressed that June 25th remains a normal working day.

Past demonstrations have ground to halt activities in major towns including the capital Nairobi with demonstrators blocking roads barring transport to and from work.

“The Government clarifies that June 25th is not a public holiday. Citizens are urged to move forward and work that day constructively.” Mwaura said.

He has further called for peace during the commemoration saying it is ironical for politicians to risk the lives of Kenyans in remembrance of Kenyans who were killed in past demos.

Mwaura has called on Kenyans to shun what he terms as violent protests that negatively affect the economy.

According to the government spokesperson demos end up hurting the youth who form majority of demonstrators.

“The Kenya Revenue Authority conservatively estimates that recent protests led to losses of up to Ksh. 6 billion.” He said.

The government has further warned politicians against inciting demonstrations reaffirming its commitment to justice for victims of violent protests.

The compensation, Mwaura has said, is a timely response to past injustices.

“ This program is called Uwiano and is about restorative justice not Retributive.” Mwaura has said.

President William Ruto last week received a report on the Framework for Compensation of Victims of Protests and Riots setting stage for eventual compensation of the victims.
