President William Ruto would emerge victorious if the upcoming general elections were to be held today a new poll by research firm TIFA has shown.

The survey that involved a total of 2,013 respondents shows that 24% support the head of state for a second term, followed by Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka at 19%, while former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna are tied at 18% each.

“As this survey release has shown, even if the current incumbent’s relatively low popularity suggests his electoral vulnerability, the absence of a clear front-runner among Opposition ranks may make such apparent vulnerability irrelevant,” the pollster said.

With the United Opposition still battling the headache of picking its flagbearer, the survey results indicate that a Kalonzo Matiangi pairing would likely yield a 31% support while a Kalonzo- Sifuna ticket would get 28% support.

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino who has so far indicated that he will vie for Nairobi’s gubernatorial seat would garner 4% of the presidential ballot while other candidates would share 6%.

The survey has also revealed that a majority of ODM members polled at 73% supporting the Edwin Sifuna led Linda Mwananchi faction as opposed to the Oburu Oginga’s Linda Ground group.

The respondents were drawn from Central Rift, Coast, Lower Eastern, Mt Kenya, and Nairobi, Northern, Nyanza, South Rift and Western regions.
