A silent rift is emerging between the Linda Mwananchi faction of the ODM Party and the United Alternative Government (formerly United Opposition) over the planned June 25th demonstrations.
The two camps that have in recent days been warming up to each other taunting the possibility of an alliance in the 2027 polls are reading from different scripts with Rigathi Gachagua, a key principal of the United Alternative Government imploring Kenyans to shun the planned demos.
Gachagua’s plea came a few hours after the Linda Mwananchi group led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna addressed the press confirming that they will join the demos.
The group announced a postponement of its planned rally in Kisii and Keroka in order to participate in the commemoration of lives lost during the Gen- Z led June 25th 2024 protests.
“The Linda Mwananchi Kisii and Keroka rallies have been postponed to July 3rd 2026. We will join other Kenyans to stand in solidarity with victims of Gen- Z protests of 2024.” Caroli Omondi said on behalf of the group.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua however urged Kenyans to shun the planned June 25th demonstrations alleging that the state has planned to unleash violence during the protests.
Speaking after meeting MCA’s from Kiambu County the DCP Party Boss has claimed that Interior Cabinet secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has deployed goons to infiltrate the demos meant to commemorate the June 25th 2024 protests.
“There is no need to go to the Street and expose yourself to death and injury.” Gachagua has said in a press conference at his rural wamunyoro home.
“That is why Kipchumba Murkomen, President Ruto and his deputy Kithure Kindiki have been issuing threats.” He has added.
The DCP Party leader has further called on the youth to start mobilizing in readiness for the 2027 general elections saying the only feasible way to fight the current administration is at the ballot.
Gachagua has called on businessmen to close their businesses and the working class to remain at home on Thursday saying the state ‘plans to unleash violence’.
