Motorists using the busy Thika Superhighway should prepare for temporary traffic disruptions at Globe Roundabout following a public notice issued by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA).
In the notice dated March 12, 2026, KeNHA announced that the highway will be partially closed at Globe Roundabout from Thursday, March 12 to Thursday, March 19, 2026, to allow for reinstatement works on the Nairobi River bridge near the junction.
The authority said the temporary closure is necessary to facilitate technical investigations and stabilization works around the bridge infrastructure.
Traffic Diversions Announced
To minimize disruption during the works, KeNHA has outlined several alternative routes for motorists:
- Traffic heading towards Nairobi CBD from Thika will be redirected to use the Globe Overpass.
- Motorists traveling from Thika towards University Way will use Prof. Wangari Maathai Road.
- Vehicles moving from Thika towards Kirinyaga Road and OTC will be diverted to Ring Road.
- Motorists traveling from Kipande Road to the CBD will use Limuru Road (Fig Tree) before joining Prof. Wangari Maathai Road.
- Vehicles from University Way or the CBD intending to make a U-turn at Globe Roundabout toward Thika will instead use the Guru Nanak U-turn.
Motorists Urged to Exercise Caution
KeNHA noted that additional lane management measures and traffic control arrangements may be introduced as the works progress.
The authority has urged drivers to exercise caution around the construction zone, follow traffic diversion signs, and cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals deployed on site.
The Globe Roundabout is one of Nairobi’s busiest traffic interchanges linking Thika Road, Limuru Road, University Way, and Kipande Road, making the temporary disruption likely to affect thousands of motorists commuting to and from the city centre.
Motorists are therefore encouraged to plan their journeys in advance and allow extra travel time during the construction period.
