The Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA) has issued another 7 day eviction notice targeting traders along Thika Superhighway to pave way for construction of roadside stations.

Through a notice dated 23rd February 2026, KENHA Director General Luka Kimeli has said traders operating at Kihunguro, Allsops and Delview sections on both sides of the highway are to remove their structures and clear the affected areas within one week.

“This is to facilitate the construction of designated roadside stations intended to improve safety standards, enhance corridor functionality, and ease traffic congestion along the busy highway,” the notice reads.

The affected traders have further been urged to comply with the notice or attract enforcement action.

The announcement follows recent demolition operations conducted by KeNHA in Githurai, which spiralled into unrest as residents clashed with police, engaged in running battles, and lit bonfires along the highway.

On the afternoon of February 18, the busy lane along Thika Road heading towards Nairobi’s CBD was completely blocked, forcing vehicles to divert through the Githurai 45 roundabout.

KeNHA maintained the Githurai demolitions were carried out lawfully, noting the area had recorded numerous road safety incidents due to structures encroaching on the road reserve over time.
