Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC )Deputy Chief Executive Officer Ruth Kulundu has been appointed as the acting C.E.O of the electoral agency.

Kulundu’s appointed follows the lapse of the 6-month acting term of Moses Sunkuli who took over the leadership of IEBC’s Secretariat after the voluntary resignation of Hussein Marjan.

The appointment of Kulundu has been communicated via a memo from the IEBC Chairman Erastus Edung Ethekon.

“The Commission has appointed Ruth Kulundu to the position of Acting Chief Executive Officer/Commission Secretary, effective August 5, 2026,” Ethekon said in the communique.

Kulundu will serve for a period of two months or until a substantive Chief executive.

Ethekon has called on staff of the commission to accord Kulundu the necessary support as she eases into the new position.

“During this transition, the Commission requests all staff members to extend their full cooperation and support to Ms Kulundu to ensure our operations continue to run smoothly and efficiently,” the Chairman said.

The appointment comes a few weeks after the commission officially kickstarted the process of filling the vacancy in the CEO’s seat.

In a notice dated July 28, the Commission called on qualified candidates to apply for the position.

The successful candidate will be appointed on a four-year contract, renewable once for another four years subject to satisfactory performance.
