Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has announced a raft of measures aimed at addressing the growing cases of unrest and indiscipline in schools.
The ministry of Education has announced plans to restructure the school calendar starting next year to ensure equal-length school terms.
According to the Cabinet Secreatry for Education Julius Migos the changes are meant to help curb the rising cases of unrest normally witnessed during the second term.
“Starting next academic year, the ministry shall rationalise the school calendar to ensure that the terms are balanced and that the second term is not as long as it has been,” Ogamba said.
The cabinet secretary in a press address has however maintained that the current calendar will not be changed with learners expected to break for midterm in 2 weeks’ time.
The CS has urged parents to be more proactive in raising their children.
“During the mid-term break, parents and guardians are urged to use this time to spend with their children and provide guidance and support.” Migos has said.
The CS has further said that the ministry of education will form a committee to investigate the unrest and come up with recommendations to address the situation.
The announcement comes amid concerns over unrest in some schools and cases of school fires such as the one at Utumishi Girls that killed 16 students and injured several others.
