Pastors and shepherds have been challenged to take annual leave and frequent breaks to rejuvenate and build their mental health.

Speaking during the Annual Africa Inland Church Pastors conference Dr. Rose Ngondi from the Chiromo Hospital Group has warned that burnouts could impaire the ability of Pastors to serve their congregation.

“Cultivate leaders who can help you in your responsibilities. Don’t wait for burnout to force to change. Choose wellness today.” Dr. Rose has advised.

The clergy attending the conference that is underway at AIC Milimani have also been urged not to shy away from seeking help from faith leaders and mental health professionals.

“Who is pastoring you? I have a clergyman whom I got to to consult when I am having challenges.” AIC Deputy Presiding Bishop Paul Kirui has posed.

Dr. Rose has called on Pastors to work hand in hand with medical professionals to assist their congregants.

While recognizing that believers tend to present their problems to their Pastors before anyone else, she has said that the shepherds should refer complex mental issues to certified professionals.

“At times there are cases that require more than prayer. As you pray you should also bring them to us to assist medically. ” She advised.

The three day Annual Pastors Conference is expected to end tomorrow.
