Christians stand the greatest risk of violence and persecution for practising their faith in North Korea than in any other place in the world.

The Open Doors World Watch List 2026 has given the Asian republic a score of 97, pointing to the gravity of the danger Christians face in the Asian state.

North Korea is a dictatorship that restricts its citizens’ contact with the outside world.

The Kim Jong Un administration views religion as a threat to the absolute rule of the Worker’s Party of Korea. The country is one of the few officially atheist states in the world.

Somalia was ranked the second most dangerous place for Christians in the world and the most dangerous in Africa with the WWL 2026, giving it a point score of 94.

Christians in the Horn of Africa State face mortal danger from Al-Shabaab- a group of Islamic militants that wants to establish a Sharia (Islamic) state in the country.

The terror group has been fighting with the federal government in Somalia and has masterminded attacks in Christian churches in Kenya, Uganda and other states in East Africa.

Other countries in the top 10 list include Yemen with a score of 93, Sudan (92), Eritrea(90), Syria (90), Nigeria, (89), Pakistan(87), Libya(87) , and Iran (87).
