Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Singoei has apologized to Burundian nationals following their harassment and mistreatment in Kenya.

Speaking at the Burundian Embassy in Nairobi Korir has said the order given by President William Ruto for the ejection of foreign nationals carrying out commercial activities without documentation was mistreated by some Kenyans.

“Most of you have lived in Kenya just like any other Kenyan. We are saying sorry because some Kenyans who failed to understand the Presidents order have been harassing you. For that we are deeply sorry.”

The Principal Secretary has said the order given by President William Ruto is meant to keep tabs of foreigners living in Kenya and not to trigger violence against them.

He has added that the Kenyan government is committed to Pan-African ideals and the spirit of the East African Community.

“The requirement for documentation will enable us to offer you security where you live so that no one harasses you.” The P.S has added.

PS Singoei was flanked by Burundian Ambassador to Kenya H.E Ambassador Evelyne Habonimana.

The government has since given foreigners three months to get their papers in order before it begins a crack down on illegal immigrants.
