The rains that pounded the capital city Nairobi on Sunday night could not have come at an inappropriate time for travelers who were left stranded following the ongoing aviation workers stranded.
The hundreds of travelers whose flights were either cancelled or postponed were forced to bear the chilling Nairobi night after reporting to The Jomo Kenyatta hoping to catch their flights to their various destinations.
“It’s been hours, we have been here from 2am but we have been left to ourselves.” One of the travelers said.
The Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU) called for the strike to pressure their employer to address complaints such as salaries and their working environment.
The travelers expressed frustration saying their plans had been interfered with due to their inability to travel.
“We don’t have any ability to do anything. It is up to the government to work. What can we do?” poised a traveler.
Local airlines including Kenya Airways, Jambo Jet and Safari link have confirmed that they have been forced to reschedule their flights.
Meanwhile exporters of fresh produce have warned that the strike risks damaging Kenya’s frustration at the international market.
They have expressed fears t that delays threaten time-sensitive shipments of flowers, fruits, vegetables, meat and other perishables.
