The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has decided to continue with proceedings against Nakuru East MP David Gikaria despite calls for adjournment from his lawyer.

Gikaria is accused of contravening electoral laws by distributing bribes to voters and admitting to the same in several videos shared online.

The commission’s Electoral Code of Conduct Committee in a ruling this morning has said Gikaria through his lawyer was given enough time to tender evidence of his admission to Hospital but failed to do so.

“Just like yesterday when counsel sought adjournment on the basis of indisposition of his client without evidence, the counsel has once again sought adjournment with no evidence.” The chairman of the committee Alutalala Mukwana has said.

Lawyer Michael Mbogu who is representing the MP presented a letter from the Nakuru County Referral Hospital which was dismissed by the committee.

“That letter is dated 13th July 2026 and issued at 3:11 PM which is technically after proceedings had ended.” Mukhwana has added.

The commission has said it is time barred and needs to dispense with the matter accusing the M.P of attempting to deploy delay tactics to stall the case.

“Frankly we are beginning to feel this committee is being taken for granted. We are sorry the commission has a lot work. It is ordered that we proceed immediately.” Commissioner Mukwana instructed.

MP Gikaria is captured in a video telling residents that he was given money meant to distribute to electorates in Kaimbaga and Mirangine wards in the constituency that is set to go to the polls on Thursday.

Gikaria is further heard in the video telling residents that they will not need their national Identity Cards to vote and thus can surrender them for financial rewards.

The commission is set to deliver judgement on the matter at 3:00PM today.
