The government has assured Kenyans that there is no cause for alarm over petroleum supply in the country despite rising tensions in the Middle East.

In a statement dated 3rd March 2026, Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary James Opiyo Wandayi has noted that although the country sources its petroleum products from the Middle East, a region currently experiencing escalating tensions, the Ministry has reviewed the supply and stock situation and confirmed that imports have already been scheduled through to the end of April 2026.

“The country has sufficient stocks to cover the country and the region,” the statement reads.

Kenya relies heavily on petroleum imports sourced from the Middle East and the current tensions in the region have raised concerns globally about possible supply chain disruptions and price volatility.

The CS further revealed that the Ministry is closely monitoring the evolving situation in the Middle East and is actively engaging government-to-government suppliers to develop contingency plans should the situation deteriorate.

Wandayi emphasized that the Ministry remains vigilant and prepared to take necessary measures to ensure uninterrupted supply of petroleum products across the country.

“We wish to assure the public and all stakeholders that the Ministry remains alert and shall continue taking necessary actions to ensure there is uninterrupted supply,” he said.

The Ministry has also committed to providing regular updates to keep Kenyans informed as the situation evolves.

The statement comes amid growing global concern over energy markets, with several countries reviewing their strategic reserves and supply chains in response to the Middle East tensions.
