The United States of America’s government has stated that it has plenty of choices of places to quarantine its citizens in case a planned facility in Kenya does not materialise.
The US’s Administrator of the Centres for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Dr. Mehmet Oz made the revelation during a briefing of the Ebola situation at the White House.
The assertion comes amid a court order stalling the establishment of a quarantine facility at The Kenya Airforce’s Laikipia Airbase.
“There are many places we can send folks,” the administrator stated.
High Court Judge Patricia Nyaundi on Tuesday June 2nd maintained conservatory orders issued earlier against establishment of the centre in a case filed by The Katiba Institute.
The judge further directed the government to disclose details and status of the project.
Residents of Laikipia held demonstrations on Monday opposing the project on the basis that it poses a serious danger to their health and general wellbeing.
They have accused the government of Kenya of ‘prioritising the intrest of the US at the expense of Kenyan citizens.’
