The National Police Service (NPS) has stepped up security measures across the country as Kenyans begin traveling for the Easter holidays, a period typically marked by increased movement, social gatherings, and heightened road activity.

In a press statement released Tuesday 31st March 2026, the NPS reassured the public of their safety, noting that the holiday coincides with school closures and the ongoing rainy season-factors that often contribute to road safety risks.

“We wish to assure all Kenyans, residents and visitors of their safety and security as the country prepares for the Easter holidays,” the Service said.

Authorities say a multi-agency approach is already in place, focusing on road safety enforcement and enhanced patrols nationwide. Police have intensified operations targeting compliance with traffic laws, especially along major highways and urban centers experiencing heavy traffic flow.

“Road safety remains a collective responsibility as we work towards making this period safe for all,” the statement added.

The Service has issued a strong appeal to motorists, pedestrians, and public transport operators, including boda boda riders to exercise caution. Key concerns include speeding, drunk driving, overloading, and distracted driving, all of which are leading causes of road accidents during holiday periods.

“Strict adherence to traffic rules, including observing speed limits and wearing protective gear, is essential in preventing fatalities and injuries,” NPS emphasized.

Vehicle owners have also been urged to conduct routine maintenance checks to avoid mechanical failures that could lead to accidents, especially with the challenging road conditions brought by the rains.

Beyond road safety, the NPS has increased police visibility in public areas such as shopping malls, places of worship, markets, and transport hubs. The goal is to deter crime and ensure the safety of citizens during the busy holiday period.

“We have deployed additional personnel and resources to ensure the protection of life and property,” the Service said.

Members of the public are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Reports can be made at local police stations or through emergency numbers 999 and 911, as well as anonymous tip lines.
