Murang’a County Governor Irungu Kang’ata will be away from physical office engagements for approximately one month following an injury sustained on 18th February 2026 in Nairobi.

In a statement released by the County Government, the Governor was attending a Nutritional International meeting when he tripped and injured his heel tendons.

“Murang’a County Government wishes to inform the public that Governor Kang’ata was attending a Nutritional International meeting in Nairobi when he unfortunately tripped and sustained an injury to his heel tendons,” the statement read.

The meeting had been organized by Nutrition International, a Canadian government-supported organization that partners with Murang’a County and other counties to implement key nutritional and public health programmes.

Following medical assessment, doctors advised the Governor to take time off from physical engagements to allow for full recovery.

“Following medical assessment, the Governor is currently receiving treatment and has been advised to remain away from physical office engagements for approximately one (1) month to allow for full recovery,” the County Government stated.

During this period, Deputy Governor Stephen Munania will represent the Governor in functions requiring his physical presence while the County Executive Committee Member for Finance, Prof. Joseph Kiarie Mwaura, will handle designated engagements as appropriate.

The County Government confirmed that official meetings will continue virtually beginning Monday 23rd February 2026, ensuring continuity of services and leadership with the governor also attending to county affairs through virtual platforms.
