Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has confirmed that everyone who came into contact with the Kenya’s First Ebola Case have been traced and put into quarantine.
Among the persons in quarantine are 45 health workers who attended to the index case at the Nairobi Hospital.
The patient who subsequently succumbed to the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola was reportedly at Nairobi Hospital for 18 hours.
“The patient going to the hospital was Godsent, if he could have gone he could have led to widespread communal spread.”
The patient was a Kenyan who was living and working in The DRC before he fell sick and sought medical care for over a month in the coyntry that is the epicentre of the current outbreak.
He later moved to Kampala, Uganda where he boarded a Jambojet flight to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
“We obtained CCTV footage of a relative who received at the airport and hugged him.” Duale informed M.P’s.
The government worked in tandem with foreign nations to get hold of contact that had crossed the border for various businesses.
Among those who had moved out of the borders of Kenya is a relative of the index case who had traveled to Somalia.
“It took us five days to trace the contact in Mogadishu, he is now in quarantine.” Duale has confirmed.
The C.S. who was appearing before the National Assembly’s Health Committee has praised his ministry’s efforts to curtail the spread of the virus saying Kenya is the only country that has achieved full tracing.
“ Kenya should be commended for achieving 100% contact tracing. No country has achieved this. The global benchmark stands at 85%.
“Kenya should be appreciated and not condemned through travel restrictions.” He has said referencing to the active travel ban imposed on Kenya by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
